Descripción del proveedor
The Lost Skills Course will provide participants with hands-on learning in areas that are increasingly unfamiliar to modern children: gardening, cooking, etiquette, simple mending and household repairs, and other topics traditionally taught by older generations or in home economics classes. These skills used to be commonplace, but in today’s technology-dominated world are becoming obsolete. This has detrimental effects both on children’s development in the present and their capabilities in the future. This course, taught by a licensed occupational therapist and mom of four, will foster physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth, curiosity and critical thinking, resourcefulness and confidence. Join us as we reclaim learning with our hands, not just our heads, working with the seasons and the soil, and becoming a “jack-of-all-trades” in the best sort of way. I also offer 1-on-1 Occupational Therapy services. I have 13 years of experience working with individuals with neurological conditions (like cerebral palsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury), and more recent experience working with children with ADHD and dyslexia. My approach is collaborative and holistic, utilizing nature-based play, hands-on, functional activities like cooking, gardening and handicrafts, and real-world settings to engage kids in sensory-rich experiences and help them thrive developmentally.
