When students leave high school and enter society they will be treated like adults and expected to act like adults even though they are still teenagers. They must be prepared to manage their whole lives. The College Student Development Center, Inc. (CSDCI) foresees a society where every student has the opportunity to learn the life management skills necessary to attain their aspirations prior to high school graduation. Its mission is to help students gain the self-knowledge, self-discipline, and college knowledge necessary to transition from dependent adolescents to independent adults. The company fulfills its mission by providing professional development training, a guidance curriculum, and educational materials that empower students to engage in self-guidance particularly when professional guidance is not accessible. Students in grades 10-12 learn how to: • Describe the ideal characteristics of their foreseeable futures in their own voices. • Examine the intrinsic driving forces that compel them to act. • Take inventory of their capacity to attain their aspirations. • Write relevant goals that are aligned with their foreseeable futures. • Design a detailed strategic plan of action. • Identify the intrinsic parking forces that inhibit or interfere with the implementation of their plans, and • Brainstorm viable alternatives to abandoning their plans when faced with adversity.
