Are you looking for a part-time, faith-based micro school in a cozy home environment that emphasizes fun and positive reinforcement for your child? My name is Valerie Garth, and I am a Florida certified elementary teacher with 30 years combined private, public, individual, and homeschool teaching experience. I am opening up my home for six First Grade students, two half days per week for reading, writing, math, and social science. Your child will learn through songs, games, reader's theater, and many other creative educational and character building activities and will enjoy exercise and social time during our daily lunch and outside playtime break. I emphasize a unit study approach and strive to help children make connections across subject areas. To be a good fit for these classes, your child should be at least five and a half and not more than six and a half years old. He or she should be able to recite the alphabet and be familiar with consonant sounds and somewhat familiar with short vowel sounds, be able to hold a pencil and write letters and numbers somewhat legibly, count to 20, and be familiar with very basic addition. Exceptionalities (i.e. highly gifted, delayed learning, spectrum disorders, etc.) would not be sufficiently served in this setting.
